FOS (Fructo-oligo-saccharides)

FOS are compounds found in foods like bananas, onions, garlic, artichokes, barley, tomatoes, rye, honey, and asparagus  They're only half as sweet as sugar.  FOS are not digested in the stomach, passing untouched into the large intestine where friendly intestinal flora consume them as food.  More significant, the by-products of FOS are healthy EFAs.  FOS do not affect DNA nor promote cancer.

The advantages of FOS:

.Feed beneficial bacterial, while starving harmful bacteria
.Relieve constipation
.Stop antibiotic-induced yeast
.Lower cholesterol and triglyceride level
.Inhibit formation of cavities
.Lower blood sugar levels in diabetes.

Nutritionist Linda Page suggests use of FOS as a partial replacement for sugar in recipes.  Too much (more than 40 grams) can cause loose stools, since FOS are not digested.  Try USA DDS-Plus with FOS.
