Stewed Pears or Stewed Apples

A 10-ounce stewed apple or pear, every morning will bolster your cancer defenses, according to Hari Sharma and Rama K. Mishra. In their book "The Answer to Cancer" they explain that the fruit has to be stewed, that you have to do it early in the morning, and you should do it almost every morning. Sounds good.

A basis for adopting the stewed fruit approach is the land and seed theory. Ayurveda, the ancient medical practice at the heart of this theory explains that if you are strong enough, cancer does not stand a chance. The land and seed theory explains that the body is the land and all the cancer-causing baddies are the seed. If the land is infertile, no matter how strong the seed is, it won't grow.

According to the theory, if the environment is particularly bad, you have to be particularly strong (i.e. infertile) to make up for it. If a seed is strong and the land is infertile, yet the environment is supportive to cancer, the disease might stand a chance. You want to minimize your environmental risks if you can. (For instance, don't smoke.)

Create a strong body with a strong immune system; a pure, healthy, balanced body. Minimize the risks from your environment as well. Create a body that is totally inhospitable to cancer. The seed will fall on infertile land and simply be of no consequence at all.

Apples contain lots of fiber. Apples are rich in pectin, which is a soluble fiber. Apples have more pectin than any other fruit. This should clear up any doubts about the morning apple.

Apples also have insoluble fiber, which also helps to clean out the intestinal tract. Fiber might be good for preventing colon cancer; the less time substances spend lying around in your colon, the less time they have to disrupt cell functioning and create dangerous cells (i.e. cancer).

Apples contain vitamin C-about 12 mg, which is about 10 percent of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C. Apples also have an anti-cancer flavonoid called quercetin. More on this in a moment.

The flavonoids in apples have been shown to have a high ORAC value. ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. Apples help the body increase its absorbency of oxygen radicals-potentially cancer-causing free radicals. Foods with high ORAC values soak up free radicals and deradicalize them-rendering them harmless.

Two-thirds of a medium apple provided as much of an attack on free radicals as 1,500 mg of vitamin C. Researchers suspect that the combination of the 12mg of Vitamin C with quercetin creates the Vitamin C effect that is 100 times more than the vitamin C alone (yet all entirely natural, without side effects).

Apples also contain trace minerals. They have potassium which helps regulate water balance, levels of acidity, blood pressure, and neuromuscular function. It even plays a role in the electrical impulses transmitted in the heart.

Apples also have boron. Boron may help in keeping the beneficial effects of estrogen during menopause. Some suggest that it is beneficial against arthritis, and it contributes to healthy bones by helping take calcium into the bone structure.

Here is the proper way to eat your morning apple:

1. Stew it because it is easier to digest. Your stewed apple balances your digestion and your level of energy without creating that lump in your stomach.

2. Eat the stewed apple first thing in the morning. This will begin to balance the digestion to start the day.

3. Eat an organic apple. When you eat food, it breaks down into fine particles that affect those deeper levels of the cells. You don't want some of those particles to be little bits of toxic material from chemicals farmers use.

4. Eat a fresh apple. Fresh apples have more nutrients. Fresh, tree-ripened apples are the best of all.

5. Eat a sweet apple. Sour apples in the morning create some imbalance. They make the body work hard.

Here is a simple recipe for your stewed apple:

Peel a Red Delicious or Yellow Delicious apple Cut it into quarters and remove the core Pierce the apple with 4 cloves, one in each quarter Boil the combination in water for about 5 minutes, to a nice softness Once the apple is the way you like it, take out the cloves and throw them away. Enjoy!!
